Any tips from The Light Network community on lo...

Pros often recommend testing orientation on the ground first and keeping spare gobos/holders on hand for quick swaps in moving light rigs.

Are Apollo gobos compatible with most fixtures?

Yes—Apollo manufactures gobos for virtually all conventional ellipsoidals, moving lights (including High End Systems), and dedicated gobo projectors.

Can I repair a damaged gobo?

Minor cleaning is possible, but cracks, deep scratches, or coating damage usually require replacement. Apollo offers fast custom duplicates.

Can I reuse my custom gobo for a future event?

Absolutely. As long as they are stored and handled correctly, both glass and metal gobos can be archived and projected indefinitely.

Can I touch the surface of the gobo?

Do not touch the surface of the gobo. Hold a gobo by edges, like a CD/DVD. The oils on your hand may cause damage to the coating.

Does my glass gobo need heat protection?

Glass gobos are not recommended for use in any fixture with more than a 750W lamp unless the fixture is equipped with appropriate heat protection equipment.

How Do I Know What Fixture to Use?

Selecting the right fixture depends entirely on your environmental factors. Are you projecting indoors inside a dim ballroom, or outdoors competing with city ambient light? Distance plays a massive role—longer...

How are gobos used in architectural or permanen...

Apollo gobos excel in facade lighting, wayfinding, branding on buildings, and themed environments. Use IP-rated fixtures and durable glass or metal for long-term outdoor or indoor use.

How do I calculate the projected image size of ...

Image size depends on throw distance and lens focal length. Use the fixture’s photometrics chart (excellent ones are available from ROSCO) or simple formulas: larger throw or shorter focal length = bigger...

How do I clean my gobo?

Apollo gobos arrive clean and ready for installation. If it is necessary to clean the glass gobo, dampen a soft cloth with isopropyl alcohol and gently wipe the surface. Do...

How do I focus a gobo projection?

Adjust the lens barrel or focus knob until the image is sharp. Start with the fixture close to the surface and move back while refocusing.

How do I handle gobo holders in moving lights?

Use the correct spring-loaded or clip holders. Ensure gobos are seated flat and secure to prevent rattling or damage during movement.

How do I install a gobo?

GOBO INFORMATION Please read before installing gobo. INSTALLATION Prior to installing, adjust the lamp to provide an even beam of light (bench focus). Determine the gobo type and follow the...

How do I install gobos in dedicate gobo project...

Follow the projector manual—many use simple slide-in holders. Ensure proper orientation and secure fit.

How do I load a gobo into a conventional ellips...

Bench-focus the fixture first for even beam. Insert the gobo into the designated slot (usually near the gate). Secure it properly.

How do I store my gobos?

Store gobos in a clean, dry, and protected case—just like you would any precision optical component.

How does humidity or condensation affect gobos ...

Moisture can cause spotting or damage coatings. Use IP-rated fixtures for humid/outdoor environments and allow fixtures to acclimate before powering on.

How often should I inspect gobos in a permanent...

Inspect every 3–6 months (or after heavy use) for dust, damage, or heat stress. Clean lenses and gobos regularly to maintain peak performance.

How should I orient metal gobos?

No strict “side,” but for text/logos, insert upside-down and backwards (optics invert the image). Test projection and adjust.

How should I transport and store gobos to preve...

Store flat in protective cases or original packaging. Avoid stacking heavy items on them. Transport in padded cases—glass gobos are more fragile than metal.

Pinholes: Why am I seeing tiny specks of white ...

Over long periods of continuous exposure to high-wattage lamp arcs, the concentrated heat can cause minor scaling or degradation on low-grade steel plates.

Should I clean the gobo before loading?

Yes—gently clean with isopropyl alcohol on a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid touching the surface; hold by edges.

What causes color fading or discoloration in gl...

Prolonged extreme heat or UV exposure can degrade coatings. Apollo’s ColourScenic® and SuperResolution® gobos are highly durable; proper orientation and fixture cooling minimize fading.

What precautions for high-wattage fixtures (>75...

Apollo recommends heat protection or suitable fixtures for glass gobos in very highpower lights to prevent cracking.

What role does the gobo’s position in the optic...

Gobos perform best when placed at the gate (focal plane). Placing them too far forward or back can cause softness or distortion—follow your fixture manual for optimal slot.

What side of glass gobo goes towards lamp?

The coated side goes towards the lamp. The easiest way to tell which side is coated is to take a pencil and lightly touch the glass gobo. On the coated...
